Lala Ishwar Das Kalra came to India from Sialkot with a dream of having a hotel in New Delhi’s Connaught place which is famous for connoisseurs of food and luxury. He started by opening Esplanade bar and Restaurant in Chandni Chowk in 1939.

Ishwar Das’s ambitious and efficient son Kishan Lal joined his father in 1945 and together they made their restaurant famous in Delhi.  After his father’s demise Kishan Lal took over the restaurant and with the aide of an efficient and supportive staff, opened ‘United Coffee House’ in Connaught place.

With the business expanding and raking in more profits Kishan Lal went ahead and started a joint venture of a Four Star Hotel named Hotel Rajdoot. With 55 centrally air conditioned rooms and a multi cuisine restaurant and bar, Hotel Rajdoot is the most extravagant and hugely successful venture of Kishan Lal, having the privilege of serving the country’s most popular Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.

Hotel Rajdoot is known for its hospitality and relentless approach towards delivering the best quality in terms of the food and services being offered to the visitors. The hotel’s clientele include renowned cabinet ministers, Judges of Supreme court and High Court, and Foreign Embassy personnel. Humayun Tomb

Humayun tomb is a historic complex of buildings built by Mughal Empress and Humayun’s wife Hamida in 1562 AD.  It is the first construction in India to use huge amount of red sand stone and also the first garden-tomb in India. The garden also has tombs of Hamida and other Mughals in it. The tomb was designed by a Persian Architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, who was brought exclusively for this assignment from Afghanistan. During Indian Independence and subsequent partition, this tomb served as a refugee camp for a large number of Muslims. Built in the style of Persian Architecture this tomb is 47 mt high and 300 ft wide. This tomb is one of the major tourist attractions for its magnificent art work and glorious history.

Connaught place is one of the most important and efficient business centers in Delhi. This is a place for commerce, cultural and financial events and not to forget the plethora of cuisines it has to offer.

Pragati Maidan

With close to 72000 sq mtrs of usable space, Pragati Maidan is the largest exhibition place in Delhi which is also known for hosting international conventions. Built over 150 acres, in 1982 it has Mathura Road and Bhairon road on its either side. Managed by the Indian Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), Pragati Maidan is a place for over 70 national and international conventions annually. With special trains from Northern Railway and Delhi Metro connecting it to various places, this is one of the most happening places in Delhi.
